What happens at my dog’s BehavIour Modification session?
Your 1-2-1 session takes in all aspects of your dogs circumstances. We will talk about the behaviours you are concerned about, your dog’s history and any medical issues and the reasons why these behaviours are apparent and the best force free solutions to move forward with. Your dog will be observed whilst within your home and on a walk. Advice and demonstrations will be offered and the session can take an average of 4 -5 hours. (This time maybe split into two sessions depending on the issue and the individual dog) You will then receive a detailed personalised written report about your dog and email or telephone advice is on hand afterwards to help you achieve the most positive outcome from your dog’s Behavioural Modification Plan.
How long will it be before I see an improvement?
It is possible to see an improvement very quickly but it is dependent on certain variables, your dog’s ability to learn and the time given in putting in the practice of the methods advised. Dogs can learn new behaviours quickly but they require many repetitions of the correct training and the owner’s consistency for the behaviour to be sustained. Every case is different so it is impossible to give a timescale.
Will my dog need a vet referral?
If your dog has a medical issue and taking medication it may be required before commencing on any behaviour modification programme. Mostly all behaviour cases will require a veterinary referral .
Will I be handling my dog or you?
With certain issues your dog will respond better to you its owner as a trust has already been established and it will want to please you more than a stranger, in these cases you will be given full instruction when handling your own dog. On other issues it is more beneficial for you to first observe due to the dog being too familiar with your personality and your previous reactions and it will respond better to an unknown person when learning a new behaviour.
When is payment due?
A small deposit is due after our initial conversations which will confirm your commitment and secure your dog’s place on the Yes! Good Dog Behavioural Programme. This will be deducted off the final programme cost. Full Payment is due after the initial session.
Payment can be made by bank transfer or cash.
My dog’s issue(s) occur outside the house, how does this work in a 1-2-1 home session?
A lot of behavioural issues do happen outside in the big wide world. Your dog can feel threatened and scared and this can present itself in fearful behaviours and possibly signs of aggression. I will work through these behaviours and put a detailed behavioural plan in place. The methods are best practiced without the external triggers initially and then a gradual introduction with set-up scenario’s that can help you and your dog gain more confidence in how to manage situations.
I live outside the West Midlands/Warwickshire area, will you still be able to help me?
Dependent on the distance in relation to my area coverage of the West Midlands/Warwickshire areas then yes, it may be possible for us to organise the initial consultation by email and telephone, video footage is also useful to progress onto the Behaviour Modification Plan. A home visit would then be required as I do not commence with my behaviour modification plans without seeing your dog first hand. An additional fuel charge may be applied dependent on location.
Please feel free to contact me for a chat if I cannot assist then I can possibly refer you to someone in your area that can help.
