Help! I Cannot Leave My Dog Alone

 Canine Separation Anxiety

Does your dog…….

  • seem depressed, watchful, or restless when you are getting ready to leave?
  • greets you with abundant excitability and takes a long time to settle after your return?
  • pace, pant, or whine whilst you are out of the home?
  • look for you and maintain vigilance at the windows or exit doors?
  • bark, whine, or howl when you are away?
  • destroy’s furniture or other things in the room when left alone?
  • cause wounding through self-mutilation?
  • attempt to escape the property causing damage and wounding?
  • toilets in the home only at times when no one is in the home?

If you can relate to your dog displaying any of the above separation related behaviours, your dog is most probably suffering with acute anxiety when left alone, sometimes referred to as isolation distress, whether anxiety occurs through separation from their human or being left alone both require a specific methodology of training to help them recover.

  • gain those valuable freedom hours away from your home to enjoy a shopping trip, a coffee with friends, time in the gym, eating out or attending an event?
  • feel relieve that your dog is not getting anxious, aroused, and frustrated in your absence?

Dog Separation Anxiety

It’s made such a huge difference to all of us, including [our dog] Bailey

Help is Here

  • Separation anxiety unfortunately does not just go away on its own accord and it often progressively worsens over time
  • It is physically and emotionally draining for your dog and can affect other outward behaviours, such as stranger fear, noise phobia’s, resource guarding and gastrointestinal issues
  • It is an emotional drain on the care giver, feelings of guilt and worry about how your dog is coping when you are not there
  • There can be costly repairs and neighbourhood complaints
  • Creates life-style restrictions – a feeling of being a prisoner in your own home

We worked with Mandy as our Toy Poodle had severe SA and we were at our wits end! We couldn’t even move upstairs or go to the toilet without him getting anxious let alone leaving him at home on his own. Mandy went through the structure of the training and ensured we were all on board as a family as this is key, all family members need to know what’s happening and join in with sessions.  It’s a big commitment, but one we are so grateful to have done as he is so settled and anxiety free.  Mandy puts a lot (I mean massive) amount of time and compassion into the training, and it really pays off.  It’s a very gentle process with no harsh treatment to the dog. We couldn’t have a achieved the outcome without Mandy and will always be eternally grateful.

Highly recommend, Mandy is brilliant at what she does, is very knowledgeable, informative and extremely thorough. From the first telephone conversation I felt at ease and confident that she would be able to help with the issues we faced with our six-year-old Cavapoo and his anxiety. Our sessions have given us the confidence and knowledge in how to handle this going forward to help Rolo become less stressed in certain situations when he is left.  We have already seen an improvement with Rolo being calmer and more relaxed when one of us leaves the home. Thank you does not quite seem enough, just wish we had found her sooner!

We hired Mandy for our puppy as we were particularly concerned about separation anxiety, so we wanted to prevent this from the onset. We had a bad experience in the past with a difficult puppy and felt we needed to do this correctly for our new puppy. Hiring a professional like Mandy was so helpful. Her background and experience with dog’s is very knowledgeable. We have the correct set up, correct routine, correct mind set and correct trainer. We would certainly highly recommend Mandy. Thank you, Mandy, you are a true

We had an excellent experience with Mandy who helped us with our dog’s extreme separation anxiety. Over a six-week tailored course specific to Bailey, we went from a dog who couldn’t be left for more than two seconds without anxiety to one who would settle comfortably and be relaxed for 15 minutes’ absence. In the week since that milestone, we’ve already increased that to 30 minutes using the tools Mandy at Yes! Good Dog have taught us. We couldn’t have imagined this just a few months ago and it’s made such a huge difference to all of us, including Bailey, who knows we’ll always come back to him and who can relax in his own company. Mandy’s responsiveness and excellent advice were always on hand when we needed it, with weekly video calls to monitor progress and a programme that was tailored so that we never moved beyond Bailey’s own threshold of what he could manage, which is completely different to a one-size-fits-all approach, and which simply wouldn’t have worked. We couldn’t have done this without Mandy and have already recommended Yes! Good Dog to a family member with similar issues.

Mandy has been amazing with our Ruby. When we meet Mandy we had many things we needed help with: lead walk, excessive barking, recall and separation anxiety. Ruby is now able to walk on the lead without dragging me down the road and we have more control over her barking and recall! We’ve been given amazing support and easy to follow steps to resolve her separation anxiety which we are working on as not a quick fix. Thank you Mandy.
